One common misconception is that acrylic bath systems are simply "covering up" mold and mildew issues. At Tub Masters we go above and beyond to make sure nothing bad is trapped behind the walls. When we come to your home for an estimate our highly trained consultant will let the customer know what areas are suspect and need to be removed. It is true that we are able to go right over existing ceramic tile if it is in sound condition but, in most cases some form of wall repair is needed. If the bathroom has an old surround kit we will remove the surround and address any damage.  In some cases, it is just certain areas that need to be cut out and waterproof backer board put in its place. This saves the customer a considerable amount of money versus gutting the bath to the studs when it doesn't need to be done. Of course there are occasions where a complete tear out is needed and we will inform you of why at the time of the estimate.
